8a Solving the problem
The opportunity that I would like to exploit is the lack of advocacy for visually impaired and blind people. Specifically, thereis a huge need for awareness, as well as employment. For awareness, I have noticed that people just do not know what to do when they see a blind person. Based on peoples actions its obvious they are contemplating weather they should help, or just leave them alone. That's where I come in! As far as employment goes, almost 80% of blind people are unemployed, and my goal is to help lower that.
To create a solution for these problems I would like to create a non profit organization that focuses on bringing awareness to the masses, and teach them the capabilities and limitations of blind people. This could include info sessions at high schools, colleges, businesses, etc. Also, I would like to address the issue of blind unemployment. Aside from hosting detailed info sessions at small and large businesses, it would also be cool if we could create a networking group that is filled with successful blind individuals, as well as blind people that aspire to grow in their professional lives. The successful ones can give the others advice, and they can also help them gain connections in the business world.
To read that about 80% of blind people are unemployed is outrageous, that is a problem that needs to fixed. Providing the ignorant with information about this problem is a good idea. Finding ways to give the visual impaired a career and providing them connections is important. Austin, overall I think you have a great opportunity here. I think your solution will help solve the problem.
ReplyDeleteDear Austin.
ReplyDeleteWhat great idea! Connecting people with professionals who deal with the same problems can provide these people with the insight they need to further their careers. I can imagine it must be difficult hearing advice from people who don't understand what it is like to be blind. In class the professors are accustomed to teaching students who have sight so they lack the ability to properly teach these students. A program that can provide this first hand insight is essential to help change the unemployment levels in the visually impaired community. I think starting this non profit is a great plan to help solve this problem.
Hey Austin, I like your message and what you are standing for. I think that people will definitely get behind you and work with you to help achieve your goal. 80% of these people are unemployed and I would even back that to help improve the well-being of blind people. This is some great information and you did a great job Austin.
